Is This Worth Sharing?

An ordinary observation can open a meaningful conversation. Something happens. You notice a feeling, a habit, a small contradiction in your own life. It stays with you. And then you wonder,
Is this worth sharing?
I ask myself that question. After all, who needs to know that I am confused about weekends? Or that a simple boundary can leave me with butterflies in my stomach? Or that I am still discovering parts of myself at 84?
Apparently, sometimes someone does.
Our Tik Tok shorts have been getting wonderful responses. That makes me happy and it makes me curious about what connects. Much of what I share begins in ordinary life. A conversation. An uncomfortable moment. A thought that will not leave me alone. I spend time with it and eventually words begin to form. For sure, I do not have every answer. Actually writing sometimes helps me understand the question. So perhaps that is what makes an observation worth sharing, because it gives someone else a place to begin reflecting also.
They may recognize themselves. They may disagree. They may think I hadn’t considered it that way. All of those can lead somewhere useful.
Still, Having something to say doesn’t automatically mean everything belongs in public. Nope!
I want to consider whether a story is mine to tell. Whether I can describe my experience without exposing someone else unnecessarily. Whether a factual claim needs fact checking before I repeat it.
And I want to ask what I am offering the person who reads or listens. A little hope? A different perspective? A laugh or nod of recognition? A question they might carry into their own day?
I don’t think a message has to impress people to be worthwhile. But it does need some care. Sometimes that means letting a thought develop. Sometimes it requires removing a sentence that I love because it does not belong. Sometimes it means admitting what I do not know.
Then comes the part I cannot decide in advance, what someone else will find in it.
I can offer the thought. I cannot choose who needs it or what they will take away. So I keep noticing. I keep writing. And when something feels honest, considered and ready, I share it.
You might be wondering whether something you’ve noticed could matter to someone else.
It might.
Give it a little care.
Then give it a chance.
