Marinara Sauce
Mary McDougall's simple and healthy marinara sauce that's been a family favorite for over thirty years.

This is simple, healthy and really tasty. This may be made ahead and reheated. It also freezes well.

Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp water
- 2 onions, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, crushed
- ½ pound mushrooms, chopped
- 2-15 ounce cans tomato sauce
- 15 ounce can chopped tomatoes
- 1½ Tbsp parsley flakes
- 2 tsp oregano
- 1 tsp basil
- Dash of salt, if desired
Instructions
- 1Place the water, onions, garlic and mushrooms in a large pot.
- 2Cook, stirring frequently, until onions soften and begin to take on a golden color, about 10 minutes.
- 3Stir in remaining ingredients.
- 4Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally. DO NOT COVER.
- 5Serve over your choice of pasta.
