Unapologetic Style: What If 2026 is the Year You Stop Asking Permission

    By Suzanne

As we step into 2026, I want to make something clear:

This is not the year to fade quietly into sensible neutrals and invisible choices. This is the year to show up with curiosity, confidence, and maybe a little swagger.

Unapologetic style is my third pillar for a reason. It is not about chasing trends or dressing "age-appropriately" (whatever that is supposed to mean). It's about using clothing, color, texture, and personal flair as a form of self-expression and self-respect.

Let's talk 2026 style energy (not rules)

Fashion forecasters agree on one thing for 2026. Individuality is in. Polish meets playfulness. Comfort no longer apologizes.

You will see a blend of relaxed silhouettes with intentional structure, flowing layers paired with bold accents, timeless basics elevated by one confident statement. Brooches for certain.

So be clear here, you don't need a new wardrobe. You need a new point of view.

The colors are speaking, are you listening?

The color story for 2026 is deliciously expressive.

    • Rich berries and plums (hello confidence)
    • Warm terracotta and clay tones (grounded and strong)
    • Soft but luminous blues and greens (calm with presence)
    • Classic black and white, used boldly not timidly

Remember color isn't frivolous, color is communication, and in 2026, it says "I am still here, and I am enjoying myself."

Unapologetic style is an inside job

Here is the part fashion magazines rarely talk about. When we begin to feel vibrant in our bodies, ya know nourished, moving, energized, our style will naturally shift. Shoulders lift. Choices get braver. The mirror becomes less of a critic and more of a collaborator. Right?

Unapologetic style isn't about impressing others. Nope! It is about aligning the outside with how you feel on the inside.

A gentle rebel tip (no pressure allowed)

Before buying anything new, try this:

    • Put on one outfit you already own
    • Add one unexpected element, like a scarf, bold necklace, color pop, brooch, fabulous gloves, or a jacket

Ask yourself, do I feel more like me and in sync with a new look for a new year with my own stuff but with a new spin? That's the signal, follow it.

And while we are in this moment, let's whisper about thrifting

There for sure is something quietly rebellious about finding treasure where others may overlook it. Thrifting invites creativity, sustainability, and storytelling. And it removes the pressure to "keep up". We will talk more about this soon, after I have a gab session with my granddaughter Carson who lives in Boston and is my thrifting inspiration.

A question for you as we begin 2026

What if this is the year you stop feeling compelled to explain your choices?

    No disclaimers.

No "I know I'm too old for this, but...".

    No apologies.

Just presence. Personality. And how about a little sparkle.

Unapologetic style isn't about fashion. It is about permission.

And in case you were wondering

    You already have it.
