Do Superpowers Change?
By Suzanne
After spending several weeks thinking about superpowers, one question keeps rattling around in my head.
Do superpowers change?
I don't think so. I think the expression changes, but the core stays remarkably the same.
When I was younger my curiosity led me into biochemistry. That same curiosity led me into many career choices and most recently into nutrition as a way to heal my body without meds. Moving on to coaching, volunteering at the Center For Nutrition Studies, then public speaking. Now it has led me into blogging.
Different seasons. Same curiosity. The woman raising a family, working in medical labs, owning her jewelry business, selling real estate, the caregiver, the student earning certifications in her late 70's, the moderator, the speaker, the Accidental Blogger, these may all look like different people. But underneath? They are all me.
The older I get, the more I believe we don't become someone new. We just become more of who we have always been. Age does not create our superpowers. I think it uncovers them.
Perhaps that is why so many people discover themselves in later life. Not because something suddenly appeared, NOPE. But because all the noise finally began to quiet down enough to notice what had always been there.
And maybe that is the real gift of aging. Not becoming different. Nope, becoming unmistakably yourself.
So, FYI, I started this series thinking I might discover my superpower. Instead, I rediscovered myself. Not faster. Not smarter. Not extraordinary. Just more comfortable being Suz. And at 84, that feels like it's about time and a remarkable discovery.
Truth: The cape never fit anyway.
💚 Suz, The Accidental Blogger
